2 people shot dead at Louisiana’s Grambling State University, suspect sought

Police are usually hunting for the person who shot and murdered a student and another man earlier Wednesday morning at Louisiana’s Grambling State University, officials said.

Lincoln subsequently Parish police received 911 phone calls just after midnight about the shooting, which usually occurred nearly 37 miles western of Monroe, sheriff’ s speaker Stephen Williams said. The believe fled the scene, spurring the manhunt that prompted a demand students to stay indoors. Police had been on the scene assisting campus law enforcement.

“It was an altercation that began inside one of the dorm rooms plus spilled out into the courtyard, inch Williams said. “We’re interviewing witnesses. ”

One of the victims was identified as Earl Andrews, 23, a student at the university or college, Grambling State University Media Relationships Director Will Sutton told nearby news outlets. The other man wiped out was Monquiarius Caldwell, 23. It’ s unclear why Caldwell has been on the campus and what his partnership is with Andrews. Both men had been from Farmerville, La.

The shooting happened as students celebrated the university’ s Homecoming, the Monroe Information Star reported.

Sutton called the deadly capturing a “ horrible tragedy” plus “ nothing that anybody would’ ve ever wanted to have occurred. ”

“Our prayers are with the sufferers and their families, ” Sutton stated. “There’ s no place for assault on Grambling State University campus. We always encourage our college students to be safe, to be aware, watch exactly who they hang out with, and watch who’ s around at all times. This is a the majority of unfortunate situation. ”
