Army National Guard member and her dog killed after pair of I-95 collisions

A 28-year-old Military National Guard member  was hit and killed on I-95 Sunday while trying to corral her canine after it ran away carrying out a crash, police said. The dog furthermore died after being hit.

Katie Mason, of Stafford, drove off-road around 10 p. m. Sunday and ran into a guardrail prior to the dog escaped from the vehicle,   police informed FOX5 DC . It was not really immediately clear what caused the particular crash.

Mason, that attended Virginia Commonwealth University, instantly chased after the dog — yet both she and the animal wound up getting hit by another car owner, according to Virginia State Police. Builder and her dog, a pug named Stella, were pronounced lifeless at the scene.

“She was passionate about most creatures, big and small, particularly big cats (lions) and little dogs. She served in the Military National Guard and army supplies as a medic, ” her loved ones said in a  statement provided to FOX5 DC .  

Mason’s household is asking for any donations to become made in her name to the Africa Wildlife Foundation, the statement stated.

“She would have loved to know she assisted save just one lion, ” the girl family said.

A family friend who  spoke to NBC Washington   said Builder was “always kind, sweet together a huge personality.

“It’s so heartbreaking, inch the friend said.

The station documented Mason attended a wedding earlier within the day and was driving in order to Richmond that night to visit a buddy.

Va State Police are still investigating the particular incident.
