Austin package explosion leaves teen dead, woman hurt after second blast in 2 weeks

A teenager was killed and a lady was seriously hurt after a deal exploded at an Austin home Mon — and officials said these were investigating if the blast was associated with a similar explosion two weeks ago within Texas’ capital city.

Austin Law enforcement informed FOX7 they obtained a call about the explosion inside a residential neighborhood on the northwest part of the city around 6: forty five a. m.

The Austin-Travis County EMS tweeted that  a teenage man was killed and a woman within her 40s was taken to a healthcare facility with potentially life threatening accidental injuries.

Michelle Lee, special realtor for the FBI, told the Austin American-Statesman that federal authorities were responding to the incident. F agents could be seen going around the area.

Neighbor Cynthia Burdett, who has lived in the neighborhood given that 1999 and close to the home in which the blast took place, said she is at “total shock’ and the whole event was “very scary. ”

“I examined my house first of all to make sure nothing had been on fire, I did look outside when this occurs and next thing I knew law enforcement were knocking at the door saying there was a suspicious package, a single had exploded and that I necessary to leave the house, ” she told reporters.  

She said her neighbors super fine neighbors, “church-going’ people who are “a excellent family. ”

Authorities never have yet said if the blast Mon was related to another explosion upon March 2 that left a man deceased .

In that incident, 39-year-old Anthony Stephan House was killed after a “device” exploded on the front porch associated with his home in the city’s northeast Harris Ridge neighborhood about twelve miles north of Monday’s great time.   Both explosions occurred within the early-morning hours.


Homes death was initially called a murder, but police last week said this now is considered a suspicious loss of life because officials hadn’t ruled out the likelihood the victim may have constructed plus accidentally detonated the device himself.

Austin tx police said they’ve determined the unit was inside a package, and are dealing with the Bureau of Alcohol, Cigarette, Firearms and Explosives to restore the item and learn who may have created this.

Authorities have not yet released any further information on the March 2 blast.
