Body found in missing Gaia Pope search

A entire body has been found in the hunt for lacking teenager Gaia Pope.

Dorset Police said they were “confident” that the remains on land close to Swanage were those of the 19-year-old, who has been missing for 11 times.

Officers made the particular discovery at 15: 00 GMT on Saturday near a seaside path and field where components of her clothing were found on Thursday night.

In a statement Gaia’s sister, Clara Pope, described the girl as the “light of my life”.

Ms Pope informed ITV News that her sibling was “so beautiful, so psychologically wise and intelligent and so enthusiastic and artistic and creative plus understanding”.

Addressing those individuals who had searched for Gaia, the girl added: “I just want to tell everyone that every minute of your hard work continues to be absolutely worth it. ”

‘Bird has flown’

Gaia’s cousin, Marienna Pope-Weidemann, said: “We are absolutely emaciated and unable to put those emotions of loss into words.

“Our little parrot has flown, but she will often be with us. ”

Microsoft Pope-Weidemann added: “We want to say thanks to each and every one of you for every thing you’ve done.

“If there is one ray of lighting in this nightmare it is the compassion, mankind and community spirit that you’ve proven over the last 10 days.

“Your commitment and selflessness for a girl that lots of of you don’t even know continues to be staggering and one of the few stuff that kept us going. ”

Three people have previously already been arrested on suspicion of homicide and released under investigation.

Detectives detained 71-year-old Rosemary Dinch; her 49-year-old kid Paul Elsey; and her 19-year-old grandson Nathan Elsey – all whom were known to Miss Pope.

Det Supt John Kessell, of Dorset Police, mentioned: “Although the body has yet to become formally identified, we are confident that we get found Gaia.

‘Privacy requested’

“Her family has been informed and therefore are being supported by specially-trained officials. Our thoughts remain with all associated with her family and friends at this very distressing time.

“They have requested privacy and that we all make no further media produces at this point. ”

Extensive lookups took place to locate the teenager, who had been last seen at about 16: 00 GMT on 7 November within Manor Gardens, Swanage.

An hour earlier she had been taken on CCTV buying an your favorite ice cream inside St Michael’s Garage, previously being driven there by a relative.

Hundreds of missing person paper prints were distributed across the county plus volunteers helped to scour the city.

Earlier Miss Pope’s father, Richard Sutherland, told research teams their efforts were “heart-warming”.

Forensic lab tests

Det Supt Kessell, of Dorset Police’s major criminal offense investigation team, said the Dorset coroner had been informed and a post-mortem examination would take place.

He said that forensic examinations might continue.

“This will guide the investigation in regards to the circumstances of the death which at the moment remains unexplained, ” he stated.

He added: “I can confirm that we have recovered all the clothes we believe Gaia was putting on when she disappeared and, many thanks, we no longer require the public to help with searches. ”
