Jeremy Corbyn would be to call for Navy shipbuilding contracts in which to stay the UK in a speech in Glasgow.

There has been speculation that the £ 1bn contract for three brand new Royal Fleet Auxiliary support boats could go to a foreign shipyard.

The vessels will give you ammunition, equipment and food in order to Royal Navy warships.

The Labour leader will declare that building them abroad would “trash” the UK’s shipbuilding tradition.

Current UK government plan is for British yards to construct complicated warships such as the eight Type twenty six frigates which are to be built on BAE Systems’ Govan and Scotstoun shipyards on the Clyde over the following 20 years.

But non-combat vessels can be built overseas — with a £ 450m deal to develop four tankers to fuel Navy blue ships at sea being granted to Daewoo, a South Korean firm, in 2012.

Full capacity

The Ministry of Defence obtain the Royal Fleet Auxiliary strong support ships is expected to head out to international tender later this particular month – but unions have got called for the process to be UK-only.

Speaking last 30 days, Scotland’s first minister Nicola Sturgeon told Holyrood that it would be a “blatant betrayal” if the work did not visit Scottish shipyards as “during the particular (independence) referendum, promises were designed to those shipyards by the Tories”.

She added: “I argue that that work was promised towards the Clyde and should definitely go to the Clyde”.

But it continues to be reported that the Clyde yards are not prone to bid for the contract as they are already at full capability with the Type 26 work.

On a visit to Govan, Mr Corbyn will say building the boats somewhere in the UK could secure over 6, 500 jobs – one, 800 of these in shipyards.

He will argue that workers within British shipyards “share a happy tradition – building the best boats in the world”.

‘Industrial decline’

Yet he will warn: “The Conservative federal government is trashing that tradition simply by offering up the Ministry of Defence’s most recent contract for three new Navy Solid Support Ships to abroad companies to build abroad.

“This decision is wrong. These days we are calling on the government to guarantee these three new ships for the Regal Fleet Auxiliary will be built in household shipyards.

“Our shipyards used to produce half of all new boats worldwide. Our current market share has become less than half a percent. The Tories seem hell-bent on accelerating plus deepening this industrial decline. inch

The Labour chief will also pledge that his celebration would use public contracts included in its bigger plans to update the economy, and urged individuals not to listen to anyone who said the nation was no longer capable of building items.

The Imod said that the work on eight brand new Type 26 anti-submarine ships plus five smaller Type 31 frigates mean that the UK “is witnessing the renaissance in shipbuilding”, including protecting “4, 000 jobs and two decades of work” on the Clyde.

A spokesman added: “We are launching a competition for 3 new Fleet Solid Support boats this year and strongly encourage Uk yards to take part.

“Since 2010 this authorities has invested more than £ 6bn in shipbuilding in the UK, securing a large number of jobs. In 2018/19 we be prepared to spend in excess of £ 750m assisting the fleet. ”

And it has said that UK shipyards are usually “strongly encouraged” to bid for that support ship contract, which is likely to be awarded in 2020.
