Chicago police officer dies after being shot multiple times

A good off-duty officer with the Chicago Law enforcement Department has died after he or she was “senselessly murdered” in a the downtown area building Tuesday afternoon, police mentioned.

Commander Paul Bauer, of the eighteenth District, was chasing a believe when he was “shot many times, ” Police Superintendent Eddie Manley said at a news conference.

Bauer, 53, had spotted a guy matching the radio description of an equipped suspect when he “engaged within an armed physical confrontation, ” about 2 p. m., Johnson mentioned.

After the capturing, Bauer was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Fox 32 Chicago documented the commander has been shot in a stairwell of the Thompson Center in the city’s downtown company center.

Sources told Fox News that will police seemed to be responding to a thievery but it’s unclear what the believe was doing that prompted officials to want to speak with him.

A “person of interest” has been taken straight into custody, police said.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said “Bauer stood for your highest ideals of our police division & our city— to function and protect the people of Chi town. ”

Bauer was a 31-year veteran from the Chicago Police Department.
