Climber saved wife in ‘last act of love’

The family of a climber through Wales killed shielding his spouse from a rock fall in California have got said he will “always be our own hero” for saving her.

Andrew Foster, 32, initially from Cheltenham, died when rocks dropped from El Capitan in Yosemite National Park upon 27 September.

Their wife Lucy, 28, who was significantly injured and is recovering in medical center, was protected by her partner’s body.

Mr Foster’s family said they were so happy with their “brave boy”.

In a statement, they said they awaken every morning hoping his passing away had been a “bad dream”.

“As has already been reported, Toby died whilst shielding Lucy plus, indeed, we understand another climber witnessed him running back to the particular rock fall to protect Lucy, inch his family said.

“They loved each other very much and, while our loss is usually indescribable, we are so proud of our own brave boy in saving Lucy; he will always be our hero. inch

Mrs Foster’s family said he was “the man of her dreams”.

“We take some comfort and ease from the fact that Andy’s last function of love saved Lucy’s lifestyle. Both families are supporting each other with this incredibly difficult time of loss plus sadness, ” they said.

The families said she has been stable in hospital and the buddies the couple had been climbing along with had been at her hospital bedroom.

They said they were right now focused on getting his body returning to the UK.

The Este Capitan rock formation is the tour’s largest granite monolith and one from the best-known landmarks in Yosemite.

The pair, found along with climbing equipment, are believed to were scouting out the ascent from the trail when a “sheet” of granitic plummeted from a height of 200m (656ft).

Mr Create proposed to his wife within the Alps in 2015 and the few married last year.

He went to Cleeve School within Bishop’s Cleeve, Gloucestershire, before going in order to Cardiff University in 2003 to analyze engineering.

In 06\, he began working for the Cardiff-based outside activity shop Up and Below, before joining the international firm Patagonia.

Mrs Foster is originally from Staffordshire and went to school in Marketplace Drayton, Shropshire.
