Comey memos: Trump wanted FBI to make public he was not under investigation over Russia ties

Memos written by former FBI Director Wayne Comey about his interactions along with President Trump showed that the leader repeatedly asked Comey to make general public that he was not under investigation more than contacts between Russian officials plus members of his campaign.

The particular memos were released to congressional committees Thursday night and attained by Fox News. GOP congress said the memos proved Comey never felt obstructed, fighting the claim from many Democrats that will Trump tried to hold up the FBI’s investigation into alleged Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election.

The memos also showed that eight times after he was sworn within as president, Trump told Comey during a one-on-one dinner at the Whitened House that he “needed loyalty plus expected loyalty. ”

Comey published that he “did not reply, and even nod or change my face expression, which [Trump] noted because we came back into it later. ”

At a later point, Comey wrote that Trump told your pet directly, “I need loyalty. inch

“I replied that he would always obtain honesty from me, ” stated Comey. “[Trump] paused and said that’s what this individual wants, ‘honest loyalty. ‘ I actually replied, ‘you will get that through me. ‘”

“It is possible we realized that phrase differently, ” Comey added as a parenthetical, “but We chose to understand it as in line with what I had said throughout the discussion: I will serve the President along with loyalty to the office, the country, as well as the truth. I decided it would not have to get productive to push the subject additional. ”

More than two months later, on Mar 30, Comey wrote that Trump had called him and pushed the FBI director to make community that the president was not under analysis over contacts between Russian authorities and members of his marketing campaign.

“I reminded [Trump] which i had told him we were unable investigating him and that I had informed the Congressional leadership the same thing, inch Comey wrote. “[Trump] said it would be great if which could get out and several times asked myself to find a way to get that out there. ”

Home Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va.; House Oversight Committee Chief Trey Gowdy, R-S. C.; plus House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said in a shared statement that Comey’s memos “show the President made clear he needed allegations of collusion, coordination, plus conspiracy between his campaign plus Russia fully investigated.

“The memos furthermore made clear the ‘cloud’ President Trump wanted lifted was not the Ruskies interference in the 2016 election impair, rather it was the salacious, unsubstantiated allegations related to personal conduct flattened in the dossier” compiled by ex-British secret agent Christopher Steele, they added.

House Group Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., disagreed, tweeting that the memos “are additional proof of [Trump’s] disregard for the rule of law.

“His attempts to intimidate, circumvent legislation & undermine integrity of police force investigations demand immediate action to shield the Mueller investigation, ” the lady added.

The assurance from Comey that will Trump was not being investigated appeared to have weighed on the president’s thoughts as Michael Flynn was terminated as national security adviser right after misleading Vice President Mike Pence about contacts with the Russian charge to the U. S.

Trump informed Comey during their March 30 discussion that “if there was ‘some satellite’ (NOTE: I took this in order to mean some associate of their or his campaign) that do something, it would be good to find that will out, but that he hadn’t carried out anything, ” Comey recalled.

Comey stated Trump restated at the end of their discussion that the president “hoped I could discover a way to get out that he wasn’t getting investigated.

“I told him I would observe what we could do and that we might do the work well and as quickly even as we could, ” Comey said he or she responded.

Goodlatte, Gowdy and Nunes mentioned that Comey “never wrote which he felt obstructed or threatened, inch adding that while Comey “went in order to great lengths to set dining room moments, discuss height requirements, describe the particular multiple times he felt complimented, plus myriad other extraneous facts, he or she never once mentioned the most related fact of all, which was whether this individual felt obstructed in his investigation. inch

Trump called Comey again on 04 11 to ask “if I did so what he had asked last period — getting out that he personally is just not under investigation. ” Comey states he advised Trump to have Whitened House Counsel Don McGahn contact then-Acting Attorney General Dana Boente to request that such a declaration be made.

After Trump said he would do this, Comey said the president informed him, “I have been very faithful to you, very loyal, we had that will thing, you know. ”

“I did not answer, or ask him what this individual meant by ‘that thing, ‘” wrote Comey, who added that will as Trump ended the call, the particular president told him he had been “doing a great job and desired me well. ”

During their Jan. twenty-seven dinner in the Green Room, Comey wrote that Trump “thought probably he should ask me in order to investigate” salacious allegations “to verify [the dossier] was a then lie. ”

Comey wrote that “it had been up to [Trump], but I actually wouldn’t want to create a narrative that individuals were investigating him, because we have been not and I worried such a issue would be misconstrued. ”

“My sense is the fact that [the president] was centered on the personal piece [of the dossier], inch Comey told MSNBC Thursday night time. “He would bring it up to myself repeatedly. ”
