Florida rep calls on Gov. Rick Scott to remove Broward County sheriff following school shooting

The Florida state representative has known as on Gov. Rick Scott to eliminate the Broward County sheriff through his position over the department’ t response to the high school shooting that will left 17 people dead.

Representative. Bill Hager, R-Boca Raton, delivered a letter to Scott Sunday urging him to relieve Sheriff Scott Israel from his duties pertaining to “ neglect of duty plus incompetence, ” the Palm Beach Blog post reported.  

Scott does have the power to remove His home country of israel due to the state’ s Statute 112. 52, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.  

Hager cited reports from the media that several Broward sheriff’ s deputies anxiously waited outside rather than rush in because the alleged gunman, Nikolas Cruz, gunned down students. The Valentine’ s i9000 Day shooting occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. The allegations emerged a day right after veteran Broward Deputy Scot Peterson resigned after failing to your school. Peterson was assigned to protect the school.

Hager also cited reports there were “ 23 calls towards the Broward Sheriff’ s Office in relation to Nikolas Cruz and his home, too a 39 visits by Broward Sheriff Deputies. ”

“ The Sheriff was fully aware of the danger this individual presented to his neighborhood and chose to ignore it, ” Hager wrote.

Israel responded in order to Hager calling his letter “ reckless” and “ riddled with truthful errors, unsupported gossip, and falsehoods. ”


Israel disputed Hager’ s declare that three deputies were on the school’ s campus during the shooting. The particular sheriff claimed there was “ just one law enforcement officer [Peterson]” on the campus during the attack.

He also disputed the particular calls made to the office regarding Jones and his family.

“ BSO [Broward Sheriff’s Office] had a total of twenty three calls for service involving Nikolas Johnson or his family; and eighteen of those involved Nikolas directly [the others involved his brother]. Of the 18, nearly all yet two involved routine calls from your mother relating to parenting issues, ” Israel wrote.

The sheriff concluded their letter calling on Hager to “ publicly apologize for helping to distribute this false gossip and false information. ”


At a news conference Thursday, His home country of israel said Peterson should have “ proceeded to go in. Addressed the killer. Wiped out the killer. ”

Two extra Broward deputies are also under analysis over whether they mishandled warnings regarding Cruz in the months leading up to the particular shooting. The FBI has accepted it failed to investigate similar statements, and the Florida child welfare company looked into concerns about Cruz, yet concluded he wasn’ t the risk to himself or other people.

Johnson was arrested and charged along with 17 counts of premeditated killing.

Scott has not immediately responded to Hager’ s i9000 letter.
