GOP Sen. Jeff Flake won’t seek re-election in 2018

Sen. Shaun Flake, R-Ariz., often seen as a critic of President Trump, said Wednesday he won’t seek re-election within 2018.

In a statement to the Az Republic, Flake said he had turn out to be convinced that “there may not be an area a Republican like me in the current Conservative climate or the current Republican Celebration. ”

Flake was up for re-election the coming year and faced a stiff major challenge from Kelli Ward, who might be backed by former White Home chief strategist Steve Bannon.

“This mean will pass, but not by the coming year, ” Flake told the Republic.

Flake has had a tulmultuous relationship with all the Trump administration. In August, he or she criticized Trump’s immigration policy inside a New York Times opinion piece. In answer, the president tweeted that Flake was “WEAK on borders, criminal offense and a non-factor in the Senate. inch

Previously that month, Flake told NBC News that Republicans should have voiced up against the so-called “birther” concept, pushed by Trump, that previous President Barack Obama wasn’t given birth to in the U. S.

Flake, 54, was elected towards the Senate in 2012 after 12 yrs in the House of Representatives.
