Gunman wanted in deadly University of Utah shooting caught after 15-hour manhunt

A gunman suspected of capturing and killing a University associated with Utah student Monday night has been caught at a Salt Lake Town library Tuesday after a manhunt that will stretched on for about 15 hrs,   police confirmed.

Austin Boutain, 24, allegedly shot and murdered ChenWei Guo, an international student on the university, during an attempted carjacking at the mouth of Red Butte Canyon, officials said. They additional that Boutain and his wife, Kathleen, were also wanted in Fantastic, Colo. for an unrelated homicide that will unfolded last week.

Kathleen Boutain was booked straight into Salt Lake County Jail to get unrelated drug and theft fees. She was treated for not known injuries after Monday night’ h incident.

Guo, who was from China, was a pre-computer science major and worked like a peer adviser at the school’ s i9000 International Student and Scholar Solutions Office, the university’ s chief executive, David W. Pershing, said inside a statement, according to  FOX13 . Pershing defined the shooting as a “ mindless and random act of assault. ” The school’ s leader said students described Guo because “ outgoing charming, creative plus smart” and very engaged in the college.

Pershing added the college was working to bring Guo’ ersus family to Utah.

University officials released an alert on campus around nine p. m. saying: “ Pictures fired. Red Butte Canyon. Protection in Place. ” The lockdown has been lifted six hours later, yet classes were canceled on Halloween night.
