Ineos loses fracking ‘ban’ challenge

Petrochemical firm Ineos has dropped its legal challenge against the Scottish government’s “effective ban” on hydraulic fracing.

The firm stated that ministers had acted unlawfully in announcing the block in Oct 2017 .

However the government argued that there is no prohibit in place, with the policymaking process nevertheless ongoing.

Judges decided that the challenge was “unfounded” since “there is no prohibition against hydraulic fracing in force”.
