Iran arrests 6 for teaching Zumba

Government authorities arrested six people in Iran for allegedly training Western dance moves, including Zumba, and creating videos which they published and posted on social media.

The particular six, four men and two ladies, were reportedly detained by Irans Revolutionary Guard officers in the city of Sharhoud in the northeastern Semnan province late Tuesday, according to  Iranian press .

A team teaching Western dancing moves to boys and girls and uploading videos to social media applications such as Telegram and Instagram have been arrested, Hamid Damghani, a local Guards commander stated, adding that the group also wanted to promote an alternative lifestyle including not really wearing the Hijab, a mandatory Muslim head covering for women within Iran since the 1979 Islamic trend.

Zumba, a Latin American dance plus fitness program, has become popular globaly recently, with estimates of 15 mil people taking Zumba classes throughout 180 countries each week.

More recently, Zumba lessons were outlawed by Irans Sports activities for All Federation for being contrary to Islamic precepts.
