His voice cracking along with emotion, Kimmel called out Trump on Thursday night for providing platitudes instead of solutions.
“ You’ll still haven’ t done anything, absolutely nothing, you’ ve literally done absolutely nothing, ” Kimmel said. “ Actually, you’ ve done even worse than nothing. ”
Kimmel after that defused Republicans’ standard reaction to bulk shootings, which is to blame mental medical issues rather than guns:
“ You like to say this is a psychological health issue but one of your very first will act as president, Mr. Trump, was to really roll back the regulations which were designed to keep firearms out of the fingers of the mentally ill. You do that. Your party voted in order to repeal the mandates on protection for mental health. So , We agree, this is a mental illness concern because if you don’ t concur we need to do something about it, you’ lso are obviously mentally ill. ”
Kimmel also provided a warning to NRA-backed congress who refuse to help stop gun assault.
“ Somewhere along the line, them forgot they work for us, not really the NRA. Us, ” he or she said. “ And this period, we’ re not gonna permit you to bow your head in prayer for 2 weeks until you get an all-clear and we move on to the next thing. ”
Then, he urged viewers to go to everytown. org , the website of a not for profit group that advocates for weapon control and helps voters get in touch with lawmakers.
