Mayor Libby Schaaf Act would imprison govt officials who warn about ICE raids

A Republican lawmaker upon Monday proposed a measure that could imprison government officials up to 5 years for obstructing the adjustment of federal laws.

The Gran Libby Schaaf Act was launched by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, and named after the Oakland gran who earlier this year tipped off occupants of an incoming crackdown on unlawful immigrants by federal authorities.

“ I would like lawless, sanctuary city politicians to know this message clearly: if you block ICE, you are going to end up in the chillier, ” King said in a  statement .

“ It shall be unlawful for any official, employee, or agent of a Condition or political subdivision thereof in order to obstruct, hinder, delay, or otherwise slow down the enforcement of the laws states, or to attempt to do so, ”   the text from the bill   reads.

Shaaf within February used social media to alert the public about upcoming ICA activities.

Following the backlash, she stood at the rear of her decision, despite claims through federal immigration authorities that numerous criminal illegal immigrants escaped catch as a result of her actions.

“It is Oakland’ s legal right to be a sanctuary town and we have not broken any laws and regulations, ” Schaaf said in a declaration at the time. “We believe our local community is safer when families remain together. ”

King’ s proposed calculate comes amid the showdown in between officials in California and federal government authorities.

President Donald Trump  met last week   with California Republican lawmakers plus law enforcement officials who pushed back contrary to the state’ s sanctuary laws that will limit cooperation with immigration government bodies.

Trump mentioned Schaaff by name, recommending Attorney General Jeff Sessions to think about charging her for obstructing proper rights. “ You talk about an blockage of justice, I would recommend that you consider obstruction of justice for the gran of Oakland California, Jeff, ” he said.

The Oakland mayor terminated back against criticism of the girl conduct, penning an article in  The Washington Posting   saying she’ ersus not guilty of obstruction of proper rights.

“I wanted to make sure that people were prepared, not really panicked, and that they understood their protection under the law, ” Schaaf wrote.
