Michelle Obama called Weinstein a good friend, was silent for days on allegations

Barack and Michelle Obama responded to the allegations of intimate misconduct leveled against their buddy and major Democratic donor Harvey Weinstein — five days following the accusations surfaced. But just 4 years ago, the then-first lady acknowledged the Hollywood titan as a great guy.

“ I want to start by saying thanks to Harvey Weinstein for organizing this unique day, ” Michelle Obama stated during a November 2013 White Home event for high school students. “ Harvey. This is possible because of Harvey. He could be a wonderful human being, a good friend and a powerhouse. ”

The Obamas have had a long connection with Weinstein: he donated countless numbers to the former president’ s promotions and visited the White Home more than a dozen times, according to customer records. The Obamas’ daughter, Malia, interned for Weinstein at the Weinstein Company this year.

Late Tuesday, the Obamas released a statement saying: “ Any man who demeans plus degrades women in such fashion must be condemned and held accoubtable, no matter wealth or status. ”

WEINSTEIN CONNECTIONS TO CLINTON, OBAMA RUN HEAVY

Like the Obamas, the Clintons have long had a relationship along with Weinstein. After facing pressure in order to speak out against Weinstein, previous Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton broke her silence on the accusations on Tuesday.

“ I was shocked plus appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein, ” Clinton said in the statement posted on Twitter. “ The behavior described by women arriving forward cannot be tolerated. Their bravery and the support of others is critical in assisting to stop this kind of behavior. ”
