A Scottish comic book company has been purchased by streaming giant Netflix.
Millarworld, founded by Tag Millar from Coatbridge, includes their portfolio of characters and tales such as Kick-Ass, Kingsman, and Old guy Logan.
Mr Millar said he was still “blinking” over the news.
He or she said it was only the third period a comic book purchase with this scale had ever happened, along with Warner Bros buying DC Comics in 1968, and Disney purchasing Marvel in 2009.
Mister Millar, who lives in Glasgow, began Millarworld as a creator-owned comic-book firm nearly 15 years ago.
This individual runs the company with his wife Lucy Millar.
It does not take first ever company acquisition in Netflix’s history. The terms of the transaction are not disclosed.
Mr Millar said: “I’m so in love with exactly what Netflix is doing and excited by way of a plans.
“Netflix is the future and Millarworld didn’t want to have a better home. ”
Netflix said the purchase was a natural progression in the carrier’s effort to work directly with legendary and skilled creators and to obtain intellectual property and ownership associated with stories.
Netflix main content officer Ted Sarandos stated Mr Millar was “as close up as you can get to a modern day Lewis Lee” – the co-creator associated with Spider-Man and other Marvel characters.
He said: “Mark has established a next-generation comics universe, filled with indelible characters living in situations individuals around the world can identify easily along with.
“We anticipate creating new Netflix Originals through several existing franchises as well as brand new super-hero, anti-hero, fantasy, sci-fi plus horror stories Mark and his group will continue to create and distribute. ”
Netflix plus Mr Millar will bring Millarworld’s profile to life through films, series plus kids’ shows available exclusively in order to Netflix members globally.
Millarworld is to continue to develop and publish new stories plus character franchises under the Netflix content label.
Mr Millar earlier worked at Marvel for 8 years where he developed the amusing books and story arcs that will inspired the first Avengers movie, Chief America: Civil War, and Logan (Wolverine).
In the statement on his website he mentioned: “Over the years, Millarworld offers amassed 20 different franchises dealing with the world’s greatest artists and today Millarworld has been bought by the most popular, most exciting entertainment company in the world.
“To state this is the best thing that ever occurred in our professional lives would be a good understatement. ”
