Rep. Kennedy slams ‘bullies’ in response to Trump’s State of the Union

Rep. Joe Kennedy III slammed “ bullies” in the response to President Trump’ s very first State of the Union address Wednesday night, and offered a Democratic “ answer” to the “ chaos” of the past year.  

Soon after the president addressed the nation, encouraging unity and touting his administration’ s accomplishments to “ Create America Great Again, ” the particular 37-year-old congressman and member of among America’ s most prominent politics dynasties gave the official Democratic rebuttal to his speech.

Kennedy followed in a single great uncle’ s footsteps Wednesday. Ted Kennedy delivered the Democratic response to former President Ronald Reagan’ s address in 1982.  

Later on Kennedy began his rebuttal simply by characterizing the country as “ broken, ” offering an “ answer” from Democrats, noting that they select “ a better deal for all who also call this country home. ”

“Rubio experienced his water. Kennedy has their drool, ” American Conservative Marriage Chair Matt Schlapp tweeted, directing to Sen. Marco Rubio’s now-infamous mid-rebuttal pause for a drink associated with water.  

Kennedy slammed the particular president and his actions throughout the entireity of his rebuttal.  

“ Bullies may land a punch. They may leave a mark. But they have not, not once, in the history of the United States, managed to match the power and spirit of a people usa in defense of their future, ” Kennedy said.   “ Political figures can be cheered for the promises earning.   Our country will be evaluated by the promises we keep. ”  

Kennedy spoke at a technical college in Fall River, Mass., plus stood in front of a Ford Mustang and three flags –the United states flag, the Massachusetts state banner and the school flag.  

“ All of us see an economy that makes shares soar, investor portfolios bulge plus corporate profits climb but does not give workers their fair talk about of the reward, ” Kennedy stated, listing other complaints on behalf of the particular Democrats.

“ A government that challenges to keep itself open. Russia knee-deep in our democracy. An all-out battle on environmental protection. A Proper rights Department rolling back civil legal rights by the day. Hatred and supremacy happily marching in our streets. Bullets ripping through our classrooms, concerts, plus congregations. Targeting our safest, almost holy places, ” Kennedy said.

“ Which nagging, sinking feeling, no matter your own political beliefs: This is not right. This is simply not who we are. ”

The congressman will be the son of six-term Massachusetts Representative. Joe Kennedy II and the son of Sen. Robert Kennedy, who had been assassinated in 1968. His 2 great uncles are former Leader John F. Kennedy and previous Sen. Edward “ Ted” Kennedy.

Kennedy, though, resolved “ Dreamers, ” and talked a message to them in Spanish, then an English translation.

“ And to all of the Dreamers watching tonight, let me end up being clear: You are a part of our tale. We will fight for you. We will not really walk away. ”

Kennedy was referring to the particular hundreds of thousands of immigrants who were delivered to the U. S. illegally since children. Those immigrants were guarded by the Obama-era Deferred Action regarding Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, that was eliminated by the Trump administration within September.
