Senators flag ‘unusual’ Susan Rice email on Russia probe from Inauguration Day

Ex-national security advisor Susan Rice sent an “ unusual email” to herself the morning President Trump was sworn straight into office documenting former President Barack Obama’s guidance at a high-level conference about how law enforcement should investigate Ruskies interference in the 2016 presidential competition, two Republican senators said Mon.  

According to Senate Judiciary Panel Chairman Chuck Grassley and Sen. Lindsey Graham, the partially unclassified email was sent by Grain on Jan. 20, 2017 — and appears to document a January. 5 meeting that included Obama, then-FBI Director James Comey, then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, then-Vice President Joe Biden and Grain.  

In the email, Obama’s national safety adviser wrote: “ President Obama began the conversation by worrying his continued commitment to ensuring that each aspect of this issue is handled from the Intelligence and law enforcement communities ‘ by the book. ’ The leader stressed that he is not asking regarding, initiating or instructing anything from the law enforcement perspective. He reiterated which our law enforcement team needs to proceed since it normally would by the book. ”

The e-mail also appears to reflect Obama’s assistance with sharing sensitive information with both the particular Russians and the incoming administration.  

Grain wrote that Obama said “he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the particular incoming team, we are mindful to determine if there is any reason that we can not share information fully as it pertains to Russia. ”

She added, “The Chief executive asked Comey to inform him in the event that anything changes in the next few weeks which should affect how we share classified info with the incoming team.   Comey said he would. ”

Grassley, R-Iowa, plus Graham, R-S. C., released the e-mail Monday. They said they uncovered this as part of their oversight of the F and the Department of Justice, plus claimed it raises new queries.  

“ It strikes us because odd that, among your actions in the final moments on the last day of the Obama administration, you would want to send yourself such an unusual e-mail purporting to document a discussion involving President Obama and his connections with the FBI regarding the Trump/Russia analysis, ” they wrote in a notice to Rice.  

They added: “ In addition , in spite of your claim that President Obama frequently told Mr. Comey to move forward ‘ by the book, ’ significant questions have arisen about whether or not officials at the FBI, as well as in the Justice Department and the State Division, actually did proceed ‘ with the book. ’ ”  

The roots of the Russia meddling probe came under mounting scrutiny on Capitol Hill, where Republicans are looking at exactly how an unverified anti-Trump dossier had been used to seek a surveillance justify against Trump associate Carter Web page in late 2016.  

The senators requested Rice to answer questions regarding the email by Feb. 22.

According to the launched email, the Jan. 5 conference followed a briefing by the cleverness community on Russian hacking throughout the 2016 election. Grassley and Graham said the meeting included an analysis of the now-infamous dossier.

But one supply familiar with the meeting said this had nothing to do with Steele or maybe the dossier. That person said it was exclusively focused on whether the intelligence community as well as the FBI needed to be careful about what The ussr conversations they had with the Trump changeover team.
