Ex-national security advisor Susan Rice sent an “ unusual email” to herself the morning President Trump was sworn straight into office documenting former President Barack Obama’s guidance at a high-level conference about how law enforcement should investigate Ruskies interference in the 2016 presidential competition, two Republican senators said Mon.

In the email, Obama’s national safety adviser wrote: “ President Obama began the conversation by worrying his continued commitment to ensuring that each aspect of this issue is handled from the Intelligence and law enforcement communities ‘ by the book. ’ The leader stressed that he is not asking regarding, initiating or instructing anything from the law enforcement perspective. He reiterated which our law enforcement team needs to proceed since it normally would by the book. ”

The e-mail also appears to reflect Obama’s assistance with sharing sensitive information with both the particular Russians and the incoming administration.

Grassley, R-Iowa, plus Graham, R-S. C., released the e-mail Monday. They said they uncovered this as part of their oversight of the F and the Department of Justice, plus claimed it raises new queries.

“ It strikes us because odd that, among your actions in the final moments on the last day of the Obama administration, you would want to send yourself such an unusual e-mail purporting to document a discussion involving President Obama and his connections with the FBI regarding the Trump/Russia analysis, ” they wrote in a notice to Rice.

They added: “ In addition , in spite of your claim that President Obama frequently told Mr. Comey to move forward ‘ by the book, ’ significant questions have arisen about whether or not officials at the FBI, as well as in the Justice Department and the State Division, actually did proceed ‘ with the book. ’ ”

The roots of the Russia meddling probe came under mounting scrutiny on Capitol Hill, where Republicans are looking at exactly how an unverified anti-Trump dossier had been used to seek a surveillance justify against Trump associate Carter Web page in late 2016.

The senators requested Rice to answer questions regarding the email by Feb. 22.
