The gunman who shot and injured two students at Great Generators High School in Maryland was slain Tuesday after engaging an equipped school resource officer, an official mentioned.
The shooter was the only death. A female student was critically hurt and a male student was also photo but is in stable condition in a hospital, authorities said.
“Our school useful resource officer was alerted to the occasion. he pursued the shooter, involved the shooter, fired a circular at the shooter, ” St . Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron stated. “The shooter fired a circular as well. In the hours and times to come, we’ll be able to determine if the school resource officer’s round hit the shooter. ”
The resource official, who wasn’t immediately identified, had not been injured.
Earlier, the school had been placed on lockdown and students had been being evacuated to Leonardtown Senior high school to be reunified with their parents.
The particular incident was contained and law enforcement were on the scene, the school mentioned on its website. Maryland Condition Police also told Fox Information they were responding to the incident. The particular FBI and agents from the Agency of Alcohol, Tobacco and Guns are on the scene assisting with all the investigation.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan messaged Tuesday his office was “ closely monitoring the situation at Excellent Mills High School. ”
“ Maryland Condition Police is in touch with nearby law enforcement and ready to provide support. Our own prayers are with students, college personnel, and first responders, ” Hogan wrote.
House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., was en route to benefit school, which is in his district, Sibel News learned.
Terrence Rhames, 18, students at the school, told the Baltimore Sunlight he was standing up with friends before class started when he heard a gunshot. He said he started to run plus believed he saw a girl drop nearby.
“ I just thank God I’ m safe, ” Rhames stated. “ I just want to know who made it happen and who got injured.
Jake Heibel, the principal of the school, told mother and father last month that the school acquired investigated threats of a possible capturing and found they were “not substantiated. ” Heibel told parents that will school officials interviewed two college students in February who were overheard talking about a school shooting and discovered that they posed no threat.
