At least 13 people were slain Tuesday after a powerful winter thunderstorm drenching Southern California sent dirt, rocks and debris plummeting lower wildfire-scarred hillsides and into many neighborhoods, some of which house lavish celeb homes.
The deaths were documented in the Montecito and Carpinteria locations northwest of Los Angeles, which were seriously hit by flooding and a particles flow, Amber Anderson with the Santa claus Barbara Office of Emergency Providers confirmed to Fox News. The particular Coast Guard said it’s delivering three to four air ships for save operations, but will not conduct surroundings rescue missions if there are drones in the area.
Rescues have unfolded throughout the day within Montecito, an enclave that includes the particular mansions of Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres and several other celebrities.
Mike Eliason, the public information officer with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, said the particular heavy rains triggered “massive runoff. ”
He tweeted, “Multiple rescues through vehicles and structures are underway. Access is difficult/delayed due to-at some locations-waist deep mudflow, trees and shrubs, and wires down. Avoid the region. ”
The Santa Barbara Fire Division told KEYT-TV at least 3 homes have been destroyed by a dirt and debris slide in the area of Popular Springs Road. One man seemed to be rescued from mud that was as much as his neck, Santa Barbara Region Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni informed the news station.
Greg Villeneuve, who is staying in the Montecito Inn in Santa claus Barbara while in the area on company, told Fox News on Wednesday the skies have cleared up yet mangled cars, trees, and limbs are littering the area.

Zaniboni told KEYT “multiple” houses were destroyed and residents had been unaccounted for in neighborhoods beneath hillsides scarred by recent fire. The television station also showed the body being loaded into a military-style truck on a mud-covered street.
Firefighters within Montecito were able to rescue a 14-year-old girl after she was stuck for hours inside a destroyed home, based on Eliason.
In Montecito, some residents told the particular Los Angeles Times that they had shrugged off dire warnings in regards to the rainstorm before waking up to the deluge.
