Sudan, the world’s last male northern white rhino, dies from ‘age-related complications’

Sudan, the world’ s final male northern white rhino passed away after “ age-related complications, ” researchers announced Tuesday.

The 45-year-old rhino was euthanized Monday right after his conditions “ worsened significantly” and he was unable to stand any more, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy within Kenya said in a statement.

There are now just two northern white rhinos remaining in the world – both are feminine.

“He was a great ambassador for their species and will be remembered for the function he did to raise awareness internationally of the plight facing not only rhinos, but also the many thousands of other types facing extinction as a result of unsustainable individual activity, ” said Richard Vigne, the group’ s CEO.

The last male north white rhino had been born within Sudan, taken to a Czech tierpark and then transferred to Kenya in 2009 exactly where had become a bit of a celebrity. This past year, Sudan has been listed as “ The Most Entitled Bachelor in the World” on the dating app Tinder.

Najin and Fatu are both effective at reproducing – but the surrogacy procedure is complicated and pricey.
