A suspect was in guardianship Friday after a shooting was documented earlier in the day at Highland Senior high school in Palmdale, Calif., the La Sheriff’s Office told Fox Information.
A 15-year-old male pupil was shot “in the arm/shoulder, ” brought to the “hospital simply by an unknown individual, ” and is within stable condition, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
A 14-year-old male with a gun was recognized and there were no other subjects, these people added.
The sheriff’s office formerly tweeted that a male juvenile have been detained and a firearm was retrieved.
The suspect appeared to be noticeable in video taken of a sheriff’s car sitting near a retail center about a mile from the school.
Officials said they obtained a call about an individual having a gun on the high school’s campus at about 7 a. m. nearby time, which is a half hour prior to school was set to begin.
The sheriff’s office said in the press release the suspect’s father called a friend from the family, who was an off-duty La Police Department officer, and mentioned he’d gotten a call that will morning from the 14-year-old’s mother, whom “told him they were having trouble using the suspect who had run away through the house. ”
“The LAPD Officer after that got a call from the subjects’ father, who said the subject acquired just called him, ” the particular press release said. “The subject informed the dad, he shot their gun in the air and was going towards a local shopping center. ”
The off-duty officer went to the market and situated the teen before calling authorities.
“Deputies attained the shopping center and detained the topic for one count of Attempted Killing, ” the press release said. The particular weapon, an SKS rifle, seemed to be found in a field located west from the school, authorities said.
Highland High School, that has an attendance of about 4, 1000 students, is located 65 miles through Los Angeles. The school was cleared simply by authorities, however , the investigation in to the incident continued.
The sheriff’s office furthermore tweeted that deputies investigated reviews of shots fired near Manzanita Elementary School, located about 7 miles from Highland High School, however the campus and school was removed and no threat was discovered.
