Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Touts Need To Arm Teachers

Tx Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) on Sunday pushed for arming teachers and reducing the number of gates into school buildings after the most recent mass shooting at a U. T.   school afflicted his condition.

Tanker, a staunch conservative, appeared upon CNN’ s “ State from the Union” and ABC’ s “ This Week” to discuss responses following a lone gunman opened fire at Santa Fe High School in Santa claus Fe, Texas, on Friday,   killing eight college students and two teachers .

“ There was clearly a teacher next door, a (former) Marine, who saw what was taking place… Some feel had he had the opportunity to carry a gun, he could have halted that shooter, ” he informed host Jake Tapper on the CNN program.

Patrick said that as he visited the hospital on Friday night exactly where some of those wounded in the shooting have been treated, students and parents as well said that teachers should be armed.

He or she told “ This Week” sponsor Geroge Stephanopoulos that “ the teachers are part of that well-run militia, ” a mangled mention of the the language of the U. S. Constitution’ s Second Amendment. That modification says that a “ well controlled militia, being necessary to the security of the free State, the right of the individuals to keep and bear Arms, will not be infringed. ”

“ It’ ersus guns that also stop offences, ” Patrick added.

Under a  school marshal plan   in Texas which has been cited approvingly by President Donald Trump , teachers can carry guns upon campus,   with local authorities ultimately making the call on whether or not that is allowed.

Patrick also said that the problem underlying the raft of school shootings plaguing the U. S. isn’ t access to guns, but that will “ it’ s about all of us. ”

“ We have devalued life, regardless of whether it’ s through abortion, regardless of whether it’ s the breakup associated with families, through violent movies, plus particularly violent video games which right now outsell movies and music, ” he said.

He also reiterated the particular suggestion he first made Fri immediately after the shooting that college campuses be redesigned to have less entrances.

“ We need to get right down to one or two entrances to our schools. We need to funnel our students into our own schools so we can put eye on them, ” he said.

Could Friday’ s shooting, several Conservative politicians, including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Johnson , have been calling for exercising teachers to carry firearms.

Trump frequently pushed that idea after the school shooting in Parkland,   Lakewood ranch, in which 17 people were killed.

This particular story has been updated with the immediate language of the Second Amendment towards the U. S. Constitution.
