Toddler’s kidney transplant stalled after donor dad violates probation, family claims

The 2-year-old boy who has been struggling with kidney issues since birth will need to wait a few more months for a hair transplant after his dad, who was discovered to be a perfect match, violated conditions of his probation. The surgical procedure was scheduled to take place on April. 3, but Emory University Medical center informed the family about a change associated with plans after Anthony Dickerson’ h latest arrest, AJC. com reported.

Anthony Dickerson Jr. was born with out kidneys, and was due to obtain his father’ s left body organ. Last month, he allegedly experienced a stroke and now requires continuous care, WTSP reported.

“ They’ lso are making this about his dad, ” Carmellia Burgess, Anthony Dickerson Junior. ’ s mother, told this news outlet. “ It’ s not really about dad. It’ s regarding our son. ”

Dickerson, 26, was first arrested in 2011 upon misdemeanor theft charges and a first-degree forgery charge, AJC. com reported. He was arrested intended for violating his probation in Sept and charged with possession of the firearm. While jailed, the hospital apparently wrote on his behalf to demand he be escorted to Emory for blood work and pre-operative testing.

“ Mr. Dickerson is currently within custody for a parole violation, ” the alleged letter stated. “ If Mr. Dickerson could be escorted to Emory for blood function and a pre-operative appointment tomorrow, Sept 29, we will be able to continue using the scheduled surgery. ”  

However , right after Dickerson was released days after tests, Burgess said she received an additional letter from Emory informing your family that the surgery would be delayed till Dickerson complied with his parole official after three months.

“ The Living Subscriber Team at Emory has inquired Mr. Dickerson of compliance through his parole officer for the following three months, ” the purported notice said, according to WTSP. com. “ We will re-evaluate Mr. Dickerson in January 2018 after invoice of this completed documentation. ”

A representative may not provide further comment about the situation to the news outlet.

“ Guidelines regarding organ transplantation are designed to maximize the opportunity of success for organ receivers and minimize risk for residing donors, ” Janet Christenbury, the hospital spokeswoman, told AJC. com. “ Because of privacy rules and respect for patient privacy, we cannot share specific information regarding our patients. ”

A petition started by the loved ones urging the hospital making possible the surgery to be rescheduled provides received more than 25, 000 signatures. The GoFundMe page set up to help cover medical expenses provides surpassed it’s $1, 000 objective in two days.

“ He’ s just two, ” Burgess told WTSP of her son. “ He doesn’ t deserve this particular. We’ ve been waiting such a long time for this. ”
