Trump condemns Florida shooting as act of hatred and evil, vows to tackle mental health issues

President Trump on Thursday condemned the school capturing massacre in Florida as a “ scene of terrible violence,   hatred, and evil, ” whilst vowing to address mental health issues among a renewed debate in Wa over how to stop these continuing attacks.    

“ Simply no child, no teacher should actually be in danger in an American college, ” Trump said in the Diplomatic Room of the White House. “ No parent should ever need to fear for their sons and children when they kiss them goodbye each morning. ”  

Later in the day, the particular president issued a proclamation buying all flags to be flown from half-staff in public areas and army posts until Monday, to respect the victims.

As the president focused within the aftermath of the tragedy on psychological health, Democrats largely renewed their own push for gun control procedures — pointing to reports the particular suspect had an AR-15.  

The president said Thursday night he’ s “ committed” in order to working with state and local frontrunners to help “ secure our institutions and tackle the difficult problem of mental health. ” Trump didn’ t explicitly discuss weapon control, but suggested he’ h not supportive of reflexive actions.

“ It is not enough to simply take activities that make us feel like we are creating a difference, ” Trump said. “ We must actually make that difference. ”

Trump said he is making plans to visit Parkland, Fla., in the coming days to fulfill with families and local authorities and to continue coordinating the government response.

“ We must also work together to produce a culture in our country that sees the dignity of life that will creates deep and meaningful individual connections and that turns classmates plus colleagues into friends and neighbors, ” this individual said.

At one point during their speech, the president directed their remarks toward “ America’s kids, especially those who feel lost, solely, confused, or even scared. ”

“ I want you to know that you are certainly not alone and you never will be, ” he said. “ You have folks who care about you, who love a person, and who will do anything at all to guard you. If you need help, turn to the teacher, a family member, a local police officer, or even a faith leader. Answer hate along with love. Answer cruelty with attention. ”

Nikolas Cruz, 19, was billed with multiple counts of premeditated murder after authorities said he or she went on the shooting spree Wed afternoon and killed 17 teachers and students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Jones is a former student of the college, police said.

Attorney General Jeff Periods, speaking before a gathering associated with sheriffs in Washington on Thurs, said he has directed his workplace of legal policy to work with cupboard agencies to “ study the particular intersection of mental health and criminality and identify how we can stop individuals capable of such heinous crimes. ”

“ We must deal with this problem, ” Sessions said.

Earlier Thursday, Trump tweeted there were so “ a lot of signs” the Florida suspect had been “ mentally disturbed” – recommending more could have been done to record him to authorities.

“ So many symptoms that the Florida shooter was psychologically disturbed, even expelled from school regarding bad and erratic behavior. Neighbours and classmates knew he was obviously a big problem. Must always report this kind of instances to authorities, again and again! ” Trump tweeted.

Cruz was taken straight into custody “ without incident” Wed by Coconut Creek police in the Coral Springs neighborhood, located just a couple miles from the high school itself. This individual allegedly had an AR-15 rifle plus “ countless magazines. ”

Cruz have been expelled from the high school for “ disciplinary reasons, ” and mathematics teacher Jim Gard told the particular Miami Herald that before Wednesday’s fatal shooting, Cruz may have been recognized as a potential threat.

In the aftermath of the capturing, Democrats immediately called on Our elected representatives to take up new gun laws. Republican lawmakers are likely to push back upon such calls, as they have right after past shootings, focusing – because Trump did in Thursday’ t tweet – on issues such as mental illness.

“We are grieving along with Parkland. But we are not helpless. Caring for our kids is our initial job, ” tweeted former Chief executive Barack Obama. “And until we are able to honestly say that we’re doing sufficient to keep them safe from damage, including long overdue, common-sense weapon safety laws that most Americans wish, then we have to change. ”

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., the prominent gun control advocate, messaged, “ Another mass shooting. Apparently another AR-15. My bill in order to ban assault weapons is looking forward to a vote. How long will all of us accept weapons of war used to slaughter our children. ”  

Complete details of Cruz’ s mental problem are not publicly known. Broward Region Mayor Beam Furr told CNN he was getting treatment in a mental health clinic for a while, yet hadn’t been there for more than the usual year.
