Trump vows ‘no amnesty’ for ‘Dreamers,’ says GOP leaders ‘on board’ with talks

Leader Donald Trump said Thursday that will Republican congressional leaders were “very much on board” with discussions to protect so-called “Dreamers”— hundreds of thousands associated with young immigrants who were brought in to the U. S. illegally — through deportation.

However , the chief executive also vowed “there will be simply no amnesty” and pushed back towards claims by Senate Minority Head Chuck Schumer, D-N. Y., plus House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., that a deal had been achieved at a White House dinner Wed night.

“We’re working on a plan susceptible to getting massive border controls. Jooxie is working on a plan for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Individuals want to see that happen, ” Trump told reporters in Florida whilst surveying damage from Hurricane Irma. He added: “‘I think wish fairly close but we have to obtain massive border security. ”

After Trump landed in Florida, he announced repeatedly, “If we don’t have the wall, we’re doing nothing. inch

Schumer and Pelosi issued a combined statement following the dinner announcing an extensive agreement on immigration.   To the Senate floor Thursday morning, Schumer insisted that both sides had been in agreement and there was simply no dispute.

“If you listen to the president’s comments this morning… it is clear that will what Leader Pelosi and I publish last night was exactly accurate, inch said Schumer. “We have reached an awareness on this issue. We have to work out information, and we can work together on a edge security package with the White Home and get DACA on the floor quickly. inch

Certainly, in the face of ferocious pushback from conventional lawmakers and media outlets which includes Breitbart, run by former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, the White-colored House appeared focused more on framing presentation of the agreement, than upon denying it outright.

“By no indicates was any deal ever achieved, ” White House spokeswoman Lindsay lohan Walters told reporters aboard Atmosphere Force One as the president journeyed to Florida. “This is something which Congress needs to work on. ”

But Breitbart was already labeling Trump “Amnesty Put on. ”

“The Trump administration will not be talking about amnesty, ” Walters said. The particular president wants “a responsible route forward in immigration reform. Which could include legal citizenship over a period of period. But absolutely by no means will this particular White House discuss amnesty, inch she said, although most very conservative would consider “legal citizenship during time” to meet the definition of amnesty.

The particular House’s foremost immigration hard-liner, Representative. Steve   King, R-Iowa, tackled Trump over Twitter, writing that when the reports were true, “Trump base is blown up, destroyed, permanent, and disillusioned beyond repair. Simply no promise is credible. ”

Schumer and Pelosi said in a declaration that the details on border security would have to be negotiated, that both sides decided “the wall would not be any kind of part of this agreement” and that Trump said he would pursue the walls later.

And soon after, Trump appeared to make sure approach. “The wall will come afterwards, we’re right now renovating large parts of wall, massive sections, making it completely new, ” he told reporters prior to his Florida trip.

He also mentioned Republican congressional leaders, House Loudspeaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and United states senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., favored his approach on the migration program. “Ryan and McConnell realize us on DACA, ” Trump said, adding that he had voiced to them by telephone.

Ryan, meanwhile, was adament after speaking with Trump and Whitened House Chief of Staff Bob Kelly that no agreement have been reached.

“The president wasn’t negotiating the deal last night. The president has been talking with Democratic leaders to obtain their perspectives, ” he informed reporters on Capitol Hill.

Republicans within Congress, meanwhile, tried to make sense from the confusion.

“Slow down the trains, there’s no contract, ” said Rep. Dave Brat, R-Va., who warned” ”You can produce a deal all you want, it’s got to get beyond the House and the Senate. ”

In a number of tweets Thursday, Trump expressed sympathy for the nearly 800, 000 teenagers — many brought to the United States since toddlers or children — who had been protected from deportation and provided work permits under DACA.

“Does anyone really want to throw out good, educated plus accomplished young people who have jobs, a few serving in the military? Really! inch he tweeted Thursday. ”

Trump announced a week ago that his administration was rescinding the program, but gave Congress 6 months to come up with a legislative fix.

The back-and-forth comes as the president has instantly turned to Democrats to jump-start their legislative imperatives. Only days back, Trump and the Democratic leaders decided to back a three-month extension from the debt limit in order to speed storm assistance.
