UK must clarify Brexit issues – Macron

The UK should provide more clarity about the negotiating position on Brexit, french president has said.

Emmanuel Macron said the issues of EUROPEAN citizens’ rights, the exit costs and the Irish border question should be settled before talks could be kept on trade.

Upon Friday, Theresa May made recommendations including a two-year transition time period after Brexit, and that the UK spend the EU for “commitments” earlier made.

She wished this offer, made in a conversation in Italy, would unblock Brexit talks.

In the very first response by a European leader towards the speech, Mr Macron welcomed the girl initiative, but said the Uk position still needed to be fleshed away.

“Before we move ahead, we wish to clarify the issue of the particular regulation of European citizens, the particular financial terms of the exit and the issue of Ireland, ” he mentioned.
