Uniformed officer asked to leave ‘gun-free’ Outback Steakhouse because of service weapon

The uniformed officer carrying his program weapon was asked to depart an Outback Steakhouse restaurant since it is a designated “ gun-free area. ”

Tennessee Wildlife Resource Company officer Andrew Ward went to Umland Steakhouse to have dinner with his spouse Friday evening, he wrote in the community Facebook post.

Ward said within the post that a manager approached your pet and requested that he put their gun in his truck. Ward informed the manager that he could not as they was in uniform and had to have their weapon on his person.

The supervisor left to make a call, Ward produces, and then returned to ask Keep and his wife to leave since Outback is a “ gun totally free zone. ”

Keep noted that he does not “ fault the manager, ” but was angered by the treatment an armed “ uniformed Law Enforcement Officer who is sworn to protect and serve the public” received.

Since Ward posted the occurrence on Facebook, he said an agent for Outback contacted him plus apologized for what they called an error.

Inside a statement to NewsChannel9 , the Movie director of Media and Community Relationships for Outback’ s parents firm, Bloomin Brands, said:

“ We’ ve always allowed uniformed law enforcement officials to carry their side arms within our restaurants. A manager made an error and we have discussed this along with her. We have contacted the visitor personally and apologized. ”

Ward mentioned the chain told him “ there was another customer that was ‘ scared for her life’ who was sitting down across” from the couple, and mentioned “ she was afraid mainly because ‘ police are shooting individuals. ’ ”

According to Ward’ s posting, “ This customer went on in order to demand to be escorted to her automobile out of fear of being shot. ”

Ward proceeds not to blame the manager on her actions.

On Saturday, Ward informed NewsChannel9 that he considers the occurrence to be over.

“ I have spoken with all the manger involved, the regional supervisor and the Vice President of procedures for Outback today. They have apologized profusely and I have accepted their own apology and the issue in my opinion continues to be concluded. ”

Outback Steakhouse also delivered the couple a $100 present certificate for the ordeal.
