Waffle House shooting victims include ‘brilliant’ college student, aspiring rapper

Four folks who were killed Sunday after  a gunman opened up fire   at a Waffle House in Tennessee have been recognized as a manhunt for the suspect proceeds. The victims included a employee at the restaurant, a college student plus a rapper.

Authorities said  Taurean Sanderlin, Joe Perez, Akilah DaSilva plus DeEbony Groves were killed right after suspect Travis Reinking, 29, apparently shot them around 3: thirty a. m.


Sanderlin, 29, was a worker at the Waffle House in Antioch, which is about 16 miles southeast of downtown Nashville. Police mentioned Sanderlin and Perez, a 20-year-old restaurant patron, were killed away from restaurant.

DaSilva, 23,   reportedly a rapper plus music video producer,   was critically wounded inside the Waffle House and was rushed in order to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he passed away.

GoFundMe web page   created in his recognition described DaSilva, also known by their stage name “Natrix, ” being a “humble kind and well highly regarded young man, ” whose “character talked volumes. ”

He was passionate about “his music, family, and life, inch according to the page, and was seeking a career in musical engineering in Middle Tennessee State University within Murfreesboro.

“He meant the world us. He or she was humble, kind, compassionate, amazing and very creative. We could describe your pet in so many words. He talked through his creativity and he amused the world through his music, inch DaSilva’s mother, Shaundelle Brooks,   told CBS TELEVISION STUDIOS News . “Akilah… meaning the particular intelligent one who reasons. ”

Groves, 21, also a customer, was photo and killed inside the restaurant.  

Belmont University, a Christian liberal artistry school in Nashville, said in the statement that 21-year-old Groves was obviously a senior at the school, where the girl was majoring in social function.

“The entire campus community is stunned and devastated by how this kind of senseless violence has taken the life of the young woman, an individual full of enormous potential, ” Belmont University mentioned. “We extend our thoughts plus prayers to her family and friends as they fully understand unimaginable grief. ”

Groves’ basketball trainer at Gallatin High School, where the girl was reportedly an “exceptional college student and star athlete, ” informed the Tennessean that Groves “was a brilliant young lady, very, very smart and a very hard worker. ”

Kendrick said that everything asked of Groves, she “was doing to do with all her coronary heart…. She was a very special individual. ”

“She was a very likable dude, ” coach Kim Kendrick mentioned. “She was one of three senior citizens on her team, and she was a excellent role model  for the other gamers because of her hard work and commitment to her studies and to her college. ”


Two other people — Shanita Waggoner, 21, and Sharita Henderson, 24 — were getting treated for gunshot wounds on Vanderbilt University Medical Center, officials mentioned. They added that one patient is at stable condition while the other is at critical condition.

Meanwhile, 2 others who were wounded in the morning hours shooting were treated for minimal injuries at TriStar Southern Hillsides Medical Center have since been launched.

John Shaw Jr., a 29-year-old cafe patron, is credited with trimming the shooting short with his “heroic actions, ” police said Weekend.

Shaw, who was at Waffle House together with his friend, said he managed to pry the rifle from Reinking’s fingers and tossed it over the eating place counter, “prompting the [gunman] to leave, ” Community Nashville Police spokesperson Don Aaron said.

The 29-year-old father insisted he or she wasn’t a hero —   “I was completely doing that will just to save myself” — but authorities said otherwise.

“You’re my hero, ” Waffle House CEO Walt Ehmer mentioned at a news conference Sunday. “We’re forever in your debt. ”

Shaw created  a GoFundMe page   to the actual families of the victims who passed away in the shooting.

Mayor David Briley explained the shooting as a “tragic day” for the city of Nashville.

“My heart is out to the families & friends of each person who was killed or injured, ” Briley said in a declaration. “I know all of their lives is going to be forever changed by this disastrous crime. ”
