Whataburger worker fired for refusing to serve police officers

A worker in a Texas fast-food restaurant was terminated after she refused to provide two police officers, the company said Sunday.  

In a lengthy post for the Denison Police Department’s Facebook web page, Chief Jay Burch alleged the particular officers were cursed at from the employee and that the restaurant manager’ s only response was “ I don’ t get into national politics. ”

“ If a business does not really want police officers as customers, just contact us, ” Burch wrote. “ There’ s no need to curse us plus make a scene, just let us know a person don’ t want us right now there and we’ ll go elsewhere. ”

He added, “Now going elsewhere in Denison in the middle of the night is not really easy because our officers don’ t have many options. What actually gets my goat with this kind of incident is that while most of us are usually sleeping – sleeping!, the officials are out there working hard to keep all of us safe and when trying to take a break to consume – they face this type of wedding reception from an employee of a local company and management calls it ‘politics’? ”

Burch never named the eating place, but local media outlets determined the restaurant as Whataburger, a well known Texas-based chain.

In a statement, a Whataburger spokesperson said “an individual worker acted out of line with Whataburger’s values to treat all customers along with respect. We took swift action which person is no longer employed by us. inch

Denison Sgt. Holly Jenkins said upon Facebook that the employee was unashamed, shameless, expressed her hatred toward law enforcement and said she would continue to decline service to police officers.

Jenkins said the 2 officers were served by one more employee.

“ I am saddened, disappointed plus angry about the treatment these two officials received this morning, ” she stated. “ However , when Whataburger or even their staff call, we will react. We will not hesitate. We will react with courage, compassion and professionalism and reliability. ”

Burch began his post simply by saying that he understands, “ specifically with the anti-police rhetoric from the nationwide media and police-hate groups all of us see in the country, that many people take up that rhetoric and dislike law enforcement. ”

He added, “ Most of the ones that I have come across in my career that will hate cops are very familiar with all of us because many have a lengthy great arrests or have friends or household members  with such a history. We get all this and we get used to it in most cases. ”

The chief mentioned a supervisor went to the cafe afterward and spoke to the worker.

The particular employee alleged “ cops pummelled my boyfriend and are racists, ” Burch said. He added the fact that woman told the supervisor the girl boyfriend was “ beat up” when Denison officers arrested your pet a few weeks ago.

Burch said the supervisor visited the station and found the particular documentation of the arrest and then examined the video of the arrest from the arresting officer’ s dash cam.

“ It had been a ‘ routine’ arrest, ” Burch said. “ There was simply no physical altercation and no one hurt. So the employee was simply laying about her boyfriend getting ‘ beat up’ by police. inch

Whatburger said the company plans to “speak with the other officers involved in order to apologize in person and make this correct. ”
