At least a couple were killed and 20 other people were injured Saturday after a vehicle drove into a crowd of people in front of a popular bar in the The german language city of Muenster, police said.
The driving force of the van shot himself in order to death following the crash, police speaker Andreas Bode told reporters. Researchers said they saw no instant links to terror. They at first announced three other people were murdered in the crash before revising the amount to two.
The driver’s identification was not released but Herbert Reul, the interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia state, where Muenster is located, stated the driver was a German citizen.
Police stated they were investigating reports that some other perpetrators may have escaped the picture after the crash.
Officers said a suspicious item was found inside the van and they also were still investigating what it is and when it is dangerous. Police said the primary reason the area was cordoned off had been due to the suspicious object.
While authorities continue to be in the early stages of the investigation, Reul said “at the moment, nothing talks for there being any Islamist background, ” but he mentioned they were investigating all possibilities.
