‘Bomb cyclone’ to slam East Coast as winter storm continues to bombard US

A “bomb cyclone” is set to dump ice and snow Wednesday across parts of the Eastern Coast that rarely see winter months, the latest bombardment of frigid climate that’s brought freezing temperatures in order to vast portions of the United States.

The Nationwide Weather Service said Wednesday a mix of snow and freezing rain had been expected to move across along the Eastern Coast from Florida to New york before rapidly strengthening at ocean.

The elements service warned a so-called “ bomb cyclone” will bring “ blizzard conditions” across portions of far eastern New England late Thursday.

“This winter season storm is forecast to bring the opportunity of a mix of freezing rain/sleet/snow from servings of northern Florida to New york, and snowfall northward along servings of the Mid-Atlantic into northern Brand new England, ” the NWS mentioned in an advisory.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administratio and, bombogenesis or bomb cyclone “ occurs when a midlatitude cyclone quickly intensifies, dropping at least 24 millibars over 24 hours. A millibar steps atmospheric pressure. ”


“This can happen when a chilly air mass collides with a hot air mass, such as air over comfy ocean waters. The formation of the rapidly strengthening weather system is a procedure called bombogenesis, which creates what exactly is known as a bomb cyclone, ” NOAA said.
