Christian Leader: I Really Genuinely Do Not Understand Trump Voters

The top cleric of the Church of Britain says he’ s perplexed simply by Christians who support President Donald Trump .

The Most Rev. Justin Welby, the archbishop Of Canterbury, has been asked by ITV’ s Robert Peston on Sunday if he or she understands why fundamentalist Christians in the usa are so supportive of Trump.

“ There’ s two things experiencing my mind: Do I say the things i think, or do I say the things i should say? And I’ mirielle going to say what I think, ” said Welby. “ No, I don’ t understand it . I seriously, genuinely do not understand where that is originating from. ”

White evangelical Christians have been important part of Trump’ s base, along with 81 % of them voting for him in 2016. A Sibel News poll last month discovered sixty six percent approve of the job he’ s doing, significantly higher than the president’ s general approval rating of 38 %.

Peston asked the archbishop if he’d meet with Trump during his planned trip to the United Kingdom early the coming year.

Welby said he would, but don’ t read too much into that will.

“ I spent years and years associated with conflict stuff around the world where I actually met people who had killed numerous, many people, ” he said. “ Part of the job is to meet individuals you disagree with and to state of the love of Christ for them and to seek to draw all of them into a different way. ”

Welby stated he’ s already been invited to some dinner with Trump, but chances are they’ ll do little more compared to shake hands at the event.
