Crash of hockey team’s bus leaves at least 14 dead, town devastated

A western Canadian city of about 6, 000 people has been left devastated after learning that the bus carrying the town’s jr hockey team had collided having a semi-truck while traveling to a playoff sport, resulting in at least 14 deaths.

A minimum of 15 others on the bus had been injured, three of them critically, within the Friday crash, police confirmed.  

The particular Broncos of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, had been on their way to a game when their own team bus crashed, killing a minimum of 14 people, authorities said.   (Twitter)

The majority of those killed were likely for the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, who have been between 16 and 20 years older — though the Royal Canadian Installed Police [RCMP] may not specify how many of the fatalities had been players.

CBC Information reported the team’ s head coach, Darcy Haugan, was one of the people killed within the incident. Haugan’ s wife, Christina, confirmed his death to reporters.

“My brother didn’t allow it to be… ” Haugan’s sister  tweeted.

Police did not instantly release the names of the deceased plus there was no mention of the truck car owner.

Leader Trump tweeted Saturday that he talked to Canadian Prime Minister Mr. bieber Trudeau and sent his condolences to the victims of the crash.  

“Just spoke to Justin Trudeau to pay for my highest respect and condolences to the families of the terrible Humboldt team tragedy. May God become with them all! ” Trump messaged.  

The team’s president said he or she was “shocked” and devastated with the crash.  

“We are just in utter disbelief plus shock at the loss that’s dropped upon us, ” Kevin Garinger, president of the Humboldt Broncos group, told  CBC. He said this individual first learned of the accident by way of a phone call from a fan.

“Our organization will not be the same, ” Garinger informed the Saskatoon Star Phoenix .

Police said overnight that the coach had been carrying 29 occupants, such as the driver.

Authorities said the crash happened on Highway 35 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, about 5 p. mirielle. local time. The town is about one, 300 miles from San Francisco.  

The particular Broncos were on their way to Online game 5 of the semi-finals against the Nipawin Hawks. Nipawin is about 164 mls from Saskatoon. After receiving phrase of the crash, the Hawks introduced on Facebook that the game have been canceled.

Myles Shumlanski, father of Broncos player Nick Shumlanski, told the  Saskatoon Star Phoenix  he visited the scene after getting a contact from his son.

“ It was a disaster, ” he said. “ We had the crane lifting the bus. ”

Derek Patter, one of the players who survived the particular crash, was photographed holding fingers with two other players within the hospital. Patter’ s father distributed the image on social media.

Tom Straschnitzki informed CBC News his son, Thomas, was injured in the crash.

“He’s full of life and breathing, and from what we should know he has a broken back again, and as of now, can’t really feel anything from his waist lower, ” Straschnitzki said.

Trudeau expressed his compassion to the Humboldt community in a twitter update, saying he was “unable in order to imagine” what the team’s parents should be going through.

Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench  informed CBC he was devastated.
