Deputy assigned to Florida school ‘never went in’ during shooting, sheriff says

The college resource deputy who was on patrol at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Secondary school in Parkland, Florida, on Feb .. 14 resigned Thursday after film surveillance showed he never passed through the school, even though he “clearly” figured out there was a shooting taking place, authorities said.

Deputy Scott Peterson, associated with the Broward County Sheriff’ s Place of, was stationed on the school’ utes campus when Nikolas Cruz opened up fire with an AR-15 rifle, waiting 17 people dead and others injured.


Sheriff Scott Israel during a press division Thursday said video showed Peterson arriving at the west side through the building where the shooting took place. Peterson, Israel said, took up a position on the contrary “never went in. ”

Peterson was armed in addition to uniform during the shooting, but unlikely entered the building despite “clearly” knowledge a shooting was happening, His home country of israel said.

The sheriff said he thinks Peterson remained outside of the building due to roughly four minutes, while the picture taking in total lasted around six time. Israel said the officer wouldn’t fired his weapon.

Currently the sheriff told reporters he’s “devastated. Sick to my stomach. There are that’s just words. ”

When asked about what police agencies entered the building first, at what time, Israel said that the site “doesn’t matter who went present in first” or “what order person went in. ”

“What matters would be the fact when we, in law enforcement, arrive at earth’s most active shooter, we go in and house address the target, ” the sheriff assumed. “And that’ s what should’ ve been done. ”

Peterson, in agreement with Israel, should’ve “went in. Discuss the killer. Kill the awesome. ”


The sheriff said that he suspended Peterson along with pay pending an internal investigation, nevertheless, the officer resigned and retired.
