Self-taught rocket-maker shoots himself 1,875 feet to prove Earth is flat

A self-taught skyrocket scientist who believes the Earth is certainly flat and wants to run regarding California governor shot himself upward about 1, 875 feet up in his homemade rocket on Sunday.

“ Mad” Mike Hughes, the 61-year-old limo driver, promised this past year to propel himself up up and snap a photo proving that will astronauts conspired to fabricate the form of the planet. The stunt was said to be the first phase of the flat-Earth room program and receiving backing from flat-Earth groups.

“ Treated, ” the daredevil said following a landing that left him along with minor injuries. “ I’ meters tired of people saying I chickened out and didn’ t create a rocket. I’ m tired of that will stuff. I manned up plus did it. ”

The rocket launch close to Amboy, California – about two hundred miles east of Los Angeles – was first scheduled last year, but it has been postponed multiple times amid mechanical difficulties and logistical issues with the Agency of Land Management.

Despite getting some minor technical issues on Sunday, Hughes went ahead and photo himself in the air, reaching around three hundred and fifty mph before pulling his parachute. He had to deploy a second parachute because he was dropping too fast.

Footage chance shortly after the landing appears to display Hughes disorientated, but conscious. Paramedic shortly got him out of the cockpit and examined him.

“ Am I happy I did it? Yeah. I guess. I’ ll feel it in the morning. I actually won’ t be able to get out of mattress. At least I can go home and have supper and see my cats tonight, ” Hughes said after the stunt.

The daredevil, who said he wants to operate for the governorship of California, promises he built the steam-powered skyrocket out of scrap metal parts in the garage. The project cost about $20, 000.

Many mocked Hughes intended for his plans.

He told the flat-Earth group last year that the task will “ shut the doors about this ball Earth, ” but provides since backtracked on the claims that will his mission will prove the planet earth is flat.

“ Do I believe our planet is shaped like a Frisbee? In my opinion it is, ” he said upon social media. “ Do I know for certain? No . That’ s why I wish to go up in space. ”
