(CNN) Music performer Tom Petty died of an unintended drug overdose of several medicines, the statement from his family, submitted on tompetty. com, and a news release from the Los Angeles Region Medical Examiner said Friday.
“Despite this particular painful injury he insisted upon keeping his commitment to their fans and he toured for 53 dates with a fractured hip plus, as he did, it worsened to some more serious injury.
“On the day he passed away he was informed his cool had graduated to a full-on split and it is our feeling that the discomfort was simply unbearable and was the trigger for his over use of medicine, ” according to the statement from Dana Petty, his wife, and Adria Petty, his daughter.
The medical examiner’s news release stated the autopsy found these medicines in Petty’s system: fentanyl, oxycodone, acetyl fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl, which are opioids; temazepam and alprazolam, which are sedatives; and citalopram, a good antidepressant.
The cause of death was “multisystem body organ failure due to resuscitated cardiopulmonary police arrest due to mixed drug toxicity” as well as the manner of death was “accident, inch the medical examiner’s news release mentioned. Petty also suffered from coronary artery atherosclerosis and emphysema, it mentioned.
Acetyl fentanyl has not been approved for medical use within the United States and there are no released studies on safety for individual use. It is classified as a routine I drug.
The Centers for Disease Manage and Prevention estimated that of the greater than 64, 000 US overdose deaths in 2016 from most drugs, more than 20, 000 had been attributed to synthetic opioids, many of them associated with fentanyl and its variations.
Fentanyl has previously hit the music world. Prince died of an overdose
of the drug with his home in 2016.
Petty collapsed with his home in Malibu plus was taken to UCLA Medical Center, in which he died. At the time, his manager credited the death to cardiac criminal arrest.
