TSA searches 96-year-old woman in wheelchair in viral video, sparking outrage

Many are livid over the now-viral video of Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) officials patting lower a 96-year-old woman in a wheelchair at Washington Dulles International Airport in the six-minute screening being described as “ totally disgusting” and “ uncalled for” on Facebook.

On Might 15, Jeanne LaBrier Clarkson discussed the six-minute clip to the social networking of her nonagenarian mother, Evelyn LaBrier, being screened in the girl wheelchair by two female TSA security agents at the Virginia airport terminal. Clarkson, LaBrier and Clarkson’ s i9000 fiancé were traveling home in order to Anderson, Indiana after visiting Clarkson’s son in Maryland, CBS News reviews .


“ The 3 of us had been all in wheelchairs. Only the 96 year old mother was put through this prolonged, repetitive search, ” Clarkson captioned the clip, that has since been viewed nearly nine million times and has sparked warmed debate.

In the footage, the two TSA staffers politely explain the search in order to LaBrier as they screen her, inquiring her to remove her windbreaker prior to giving her a full pat lower from her hair to her shoes, asking her to redistribute the girl weight at one point to ensure that an  officer can inspect beneath her.

“What the hell do you think she is going to do? Set off a shoe explosive device? ” Clarkson can be heard exclaiming in the background of the encounter, that has left her furious.

“ I am our mother’ s legal guardian plus responsible for her well-being. I experienced security. When I saw that they had drawn Mother aside to search her. I actually tried asking why. They overlooked me, ” Clarkson recalled, the particular Wa Post reports . “ That will upset me so I began videoing what they were doing to record my complaint that I intended to document. ”

“ No offense to anybody but people use the elderly in order to smuggle stuff and just because you state your in a wheelchair doesn’t allow you to not able to smuggle stuff that is unlawful, ” one detractor clapped.

“ The girl is merely doing her job. Could it be both annoying and inconvenient? Certainly but she did nothing incorrect. She was gentle and sincere. She even talked her via each step of the process. I’m sure the lady felt badly about having  to obtain, ” another agreed.

Soon after, the airport terminal took to Facebook to clarify it turned out the TSA’ s decision solely to screen the 96-year-old in front of her flight.

“ Many of you have reached out in order to us to express concern over a video clip of a security screening taking place with Dulles International Airport. Security screening on our checkpoints is directed plus conducted by the TSA, ” they will posted. “ We have shared consumer comments with the TSA for their instant review and appropriate action. ”

Though the TSA did not immediately come back Fox News’ request for comment, these people did offer CBS the following declaration on the story:

“TSA is committed to making sure the security of travelers, while dealing with all passengers with dignity plus respect. In this instance, the TSA official provided advisements during the pat-down plus was extremely polite. The traveler was very cooperative and provided no indication that she had been agitated or in discomfort. The lady received a pat-down and has been cleared for her flight, ” an agent said.

As for the LaBrier family, their Usa flight was unfortunately canceled because of weather. With no hotels available, the particular party of three was required to spend the night at the airport, Clarkson wrote on Facebook.
